The early 1980s to mid-1990s was the best ever period for the best ever form of art that Western Civilization has ever given us: the action film. These were movies headlined by gods among men such as Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Eastwood, playing the kind of heroes who were just as fast with a quip as they were with their guns. While often dismissed by critics upon release, these films have endured in the hearts of action fans as the golden age before the genre was neutered by the PG-13 rating and concerns about movie violence. They are worthy of deep discussion, appreciation, and analysis, and that is what we intend to do here.
Your hosts – Kevin, Anthony, Mike, and CJ – are four friends from all over America who were brought together by their love of classic action films. In a way we are like the Expendables, except younger and far less awesome. So I guess more like the ones in “Expendables 3” then. Either way, when we all lived in the same city we would often gather to watch and discuss a couple of old-school action films (and by “watch and discuss,” I mean drink lots of alcohol, provide our own commentary tracks, and constantly rewind to catch especially great violence or nudity). While we are no longer all in the same city, we are taking that rowdy spirit and love of R-rated bloodbaths online for the world (or perhaps a few dozen friends and family) to enjoy. So strap in and enjoy the ride. Or as John McLane might say, “Yippee-ki-ya motherfucker.”
